The labour story

So, if you havent heard or have been living under some kind of shell, i have given birth!

January 20th, my whole life changed.

I need to blog about how labour happens. I do not want to forget it. Ever. It was really an experience.

As i am typing this out, my precious cuddle puff is sleeping on my chest. Yes, she does not want to be put down. But more on that later, insya allah. Back to the labour story.

On 20th January 2014, at about 5.30am, i woke up with a terrible tummyache. I felt like pooping really bad. So i got up and rushed to the toilet, thinking, i was gonna do the number one.
Sat and waited but nothing came out. But why am i having these tummyaches?
Washed up and went back to bed. The pain went away and i tried going back to sleep but a few minutes later, the pain came back.

Are these contractions? Or isit just Braxton Hicks? I do not know. But i whipped out my hp and started the counting my contractions using the app.
I was in so much pain. Tossing and turning. I stood up and walk around the room.

Time check- 5.40am.

Pain came back. I sat up on the bed. Breathing in and out until the pain left.  A few minutes later, the pain was back on.

I started the contraction count again. This went on till 6am. Pain keep coming and going. Not the normal Braxton Hicks i used to feel.

Time check- 6.00am

The contractions keeps coming. I got up from bed and did my fajr prayers despite the pain which was still tolerable.

While all these was happening, the husband was sleeping soundly unaware of what was going on.

After my prayers, woke the husband up to pray and told him that im having contractions and its about 5 to 8 minutes apart.

He asked if we should call our gynae, Dr Aziz.

"Lets wait. There's no 'show' yet " I answered.

While i lay down battling the contractions again, i texted my elder sister who was just in the next room. Asked her whether its the real deal? She replied 'yes'.
I also texted my twin sister and she was so excited.
I started to google on the internet, 'when should i start going to the hospital'.

One of  which that came up was when contractions was close which was about 5 minutes. Ok checked.

Time check- 7am.
Told the husband that its time to call Doctor Aziz. Luckily we got Dr Aziz number on speed dial.

Conversation with him was as follow:
Husband: Doctor, my wife is having contractions. 5-8 minutes apart.
Dr Aziz: ok, when is she due?
Husband: 26 January.
Dr Aziz: Ok you can come straight to the hospital and i'll see you there.

After they hung up, i sat on the bed. Reality sarted to sink in. Oh my gosh, im having a baby.
I texted my family in the group chat and told them that im heading to the hospital soon.
Right after i went to shower. Washed my hair, shaved here there and everywhere. Lol.
The outfit that i wore was already hanging in my closet. I only need to iron my hijab.

After i showered it was hubby's turn to shower and right after it was my brother in law's turn. That was when i realised that my brother in law is sending us to the hospital. Alhamdullilah.
We were all ready in half and hour's time.

Time check: 8am.
Brother in law asked if everything was ready. Hubby said 'yes'.
Brother in law asked again, "where's the hospital bag?"
Hubby looked around. "Eh, pat atas" and he laughed.

Translation: its upstairs.

When the hubby rushed upstairs to get the hospital bag i was sipping air zam zam trying to calm my nerves. Everything was chaotic. The hubby nearly tripped coming down the stairs. We finally left the house and got into the car, making our way to the hospital.

Time checked: 8.45am
Once we reached, the concierge asked whether i was in labor and whether i need a wheelchair. Actually i still can walk la but saje je nak sit on wheelchair. Hehe.
Hubby did the checking in while the concierge wheeled me into the labor ward.

Once reached, the midwife took my height and weight. Once again, ive shrunk but gained a total of 12kg throughout the pregnancy. I was told to change into the labor attire and the midwife asked me a series of questions. Told the midwife that i feel like pooping and she quickly got me to poop after inserting some liquid into me. So i pooped.

Time checked: 9.30am
Doctor Aziz came to check on me and said i was already 7cm dilated. So fast! Doctor Aziz broke my waterbag and he told me that my baby pooped in my tum tum. So, labor has to be fast.Contractions started to get painful and the midwife offered laughing gas. I gladly said YES.

Time checked: 11am
It seems to take forever for the last 3cm to open and the pain has gotten excruciating. Midwife offered painkiller via injection. Ok i'll gladly take it. She said, No epidural for me. Too late to take also. So yup, no epidural.

Time checked: 12.30pm
Doctor Aziz came by to check on me. 10 cm. Time to push. Oh my gosh. Pushing was tough. Doctor Aziz said dont scream as it will shorten the length of the push. Tried as i might but baby just does not want to come our. Actually my fault la, my push was good but short. So baby keep sliding back in.

Time checked: 12.50pm
Cannot already ah Doctor. So tired. That was what i told him ok. Lol. In my mind i was like, just cut me up la. But another part of me was like, im nearly there sia. What a waste. So anyway, i was in distress. I was tired. And sleepy (from the painkiller and laughing gas) and doctor asked if i need assistance. Yes!!! So he got me to sign some papers and assistance it is. Vacuum that cost erm $200?

Time checked: 1.00pm
Hubby was pushed to my head side. The midwives were next to me. Each on one side, holding my leg, doctor aziz was in position. Lets do this! Push and push and push and push. As usual keep sliding back in. Nurses, midwives and doctor n the husband was making a din in the room, cheering me on.
"Come on Diyana. Lagi sikit Diyana."
You know there's this app on the phone  where everytime its time to pray, the azan will be heard. Well, the azan rang from Doctor Aziz hp and pop! Out comes Farah!

Time checked: 1.15pm

It's all over! Finally! Alhamdullilah!! I was so relieved right after that whole thing and i was too darn tired to even sit up and look at my baby. I was just sprawled on the bed. Really. Lol. When she was finally brought into my arms, i knew she was worth all the pain.

Welcome to the world, Nur Farah Binte Md Taib.
